There are many times and reasons your toothbrush can be used by someone else. If you have borrowed your significant others brush from time to time. There was a survey done by the online dating company Match that showed that out of over 1000 members surveyed.
Over twenty percent admitted to using their partner's toothbrush. The odd statistic was that 77 percent of them wrote they didn't even tell their significant other they had used it.
Dangers Sharing Your Toothbrush
Some say that your oral health is the gateway to your overall health. When you share your toothbrush, you are opening up that road to many problems you could have avoided. The first issue arises from bleeding gums. The toothbrush can easily spread blood-borne infections. When some people brush their teeth, they suffer from very minor bleeding that is transferred to the toothbrush.
Moisture in a bathroom allows it to stay alive for a very long time. This can result in viruses or other bacteria eventually entering your bloodstream. Your toothbrush can retain streptococcus mutans, the type of bacteria that is linked to MRSA infections, flesh-eating types of bacteria and tooth decay.
Other Life-Altering Issues That Can Happen
Viruses like herpes can potentially be spread by your toothbrush. Yes, this is the same virus you have heard about that causes oral and genital herpes. HPV is also another dangerous virus that can be hosted by your toothbrush until you receive it. HPV causes esophageal, oral and even cervical types of cancer. Many fungi also reside on a toothbrush and can easily be spread. Gum disease is one of the most common types of diseases that can be easily spread via a toothbrush. Gum disease causes bleeding gums, infections, and even tooth and bone loss.
