While our primary goal at Winning Smile Dental Group is preventing oral health issues before they start, we also offer restorative treatments. We know that filling a cavity or having multiple-appointment procedures can be a hassle. Sometimes, you have to take time out of your busy schedule to maintain a beautiful and healthy smile. Well, we value your time, which is why we offer CEREC crowns. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Crowns and has revolutionized the way we treat severely decayed or structurally damaged teeth. With CEREC we can place your crown in just one appointment, using cutting-edge technology and the highest-quality materials.
Traditional Dental Crowns
Traditional dental crowns can take two or more appointments to complete.
Dr. Polly Reese has to completely reshape your enamel, and send an impression to our dental laboratory. There, they will fabricate your final crown using a specified material. It is important to note that certain situations call for different types of crowns. Traditional crowns can be made from gold, ceramic, silver, resin composite, or porcelain fused to metal. Once the lab technicians have finished your final crown, they will ship it back to our office. This process can take several weeks. In the meantime, you will have to wear a temporary crown to protect the tooth. Once we have your final crown, we can schedule your second appointment. During the appointment, Dr. Polly Reese will remove the temporary and place the final crown.
The CEREC Process
The CEREC process is much simpler. When you get a CEREC crown at Winning Smile Dental Group, you skip the messy impression and the second visit altogether! The CEREC machine allows us to take a digital impression of your tooth using a special wand with an intraoral camera. With the CEREC software, we take the images captured by the camera and create a virtual model of your tooth. Dr. Polly Reese then uses this model to create a digital representation of the crown. All of this is displayed on a screen so you can see the process as we build your new crown! Once we are happy with the image, the information is wirelessly sent to our CEREC milling machine. The machine takes a single block of high-grade ceramic and molds it into the shape of your new crown.
After the milling process, Dr. Polly Reese will polish the restoration, add some final touches, and place the crown. The entire process can be completed in about an hour. Your CEREC crown will be milled to perfection. Each CEREC crown is perfectly sized, shaped, and shaded to provide the best in aesthetics and function.
The Benefits of CEREC Crowns
The biggest benefit of CEREC crowns is the fact that they can be made in one visit, saving you considerable time and money. This also eliminates the need for a temporary crown, which in turn, eliminates potential discomfort and complications. Because CEREC crowns are made of porcelain, they are the most aesthetically pleasing option. Other crowns like porcelain fused to metal, or silver crowns, are much less discrete.
