A beautiful, white smile can make a huge impact on how you look and feel about yourself. It can improve your self-confidence and make you look younger.
Many people are skeptical about the results from professional teeth whitening because they haven't had success with over-the-counter bleaching products. The main difference between these two methods is the length of time that the bleaching agent remains on the teeth. With dentist supervised whitening, the peroxide bleaching agent has ample time to penetrate deeply into the teeth to give long-lasting results.
Take-home Teeth Whitening Trays
Teeth whitening trays deliver excellent results. One of the options that we offer is take-home bleaching trays. We will perform an initial examination to make sure you don&'t have any immediate issues to address. If you are a new patient, the exam will be a separate appointment that is free of charge. Next, an impression of your teeth will be taken so a pair of customized whitening trays can be made to fit snugly over your teeth. You can see an example of this illustrated in the image at the right.
Take-home trays are much more effective than over-the-counter products because the trays have been professionally fabricated for an exact fit. This fit, in conjunction with the amount of time the bleaching agent remains on the teeth, allows for the peroxide in the bleaching agent to penetrate deep into your teeth and oxidize away stains.
Dr. Polly Reese uses the Nite White and Day White brand of whitening gel. She will send you home with the trays and a supply of whitening gel and will give you instructions to wear them for a short time each day for two weeks. Your teeth will be noticeably whiter after this, and will always be whiter than before you started treatment. You can continue wearing the trays as long as you want until you have achieved the level of whiteness you desire.
One of the nice things about take-home trays is that you can use touch up treatments periodically as needed to keep your smile looking its best.
Teeth Whitening in the Office
We also offer an in-office teeth whitening treatment, called Zoom! Whitening. One of the major advantages with Zoom! is that it delivers brilliant results in only one appointment. The process involves the use of a bleaching gel, typically a hydrogen peroxide concentration, which is applied to the teeth for an extended period. With Zoom! the big difference is a special LED light that activates the hydrogen peroxide and allows it to penetrate the tooth enamel and whiten your teeth. Learn more about Zoom!
