What is a holistic dentist?
A holistic dentist practices dentistry in a way that is meant to benefit the entire body, not just the mouth. Practically, this means we only use low-radiation digital X-rays, and when placing fillings, instead of mercury-laden amalgam, we instead use a biocompatible resin to repair the enamel. Basically, a holistic dentist always considers how your oral and overall health can affect each other while taking care of your smile.
What is a periodontist?
A periodontist is a type of dental specialist. They graduated from dental school just like a general dentist, but then they went on to complete advanced training specifically focused on taking care of the gums and bone underneath the teeth. Because of this, they are certified experts when it comes to treating gum disease and placing dental implants. Dr. Baima, our in-house periodontist, has over 45 years of experience and enables our patients to get a wider variety of services right here in Evanston without having to run between different dental offices.
How often should I get a checkup and cleaning?
On average, a person should receive two dental checkups and cleanings each year to help them avoid the most common dental problems. These appointments also allow our team to catch any minor issues early and treat them before they cause any pain or lasting damage.
What is the best way to replace missing teeth?
This answer can be different depending on a patient’s specific situation, but generally, dental implants are considered to be the gold standard when it comes to tooth replacement. In short, they are the next best thing to natural teeth because they restore an entire tooth from root to crown and are extremely strong, natural-looking, and durable.
How long will it take to fix my tooth?
If your tooth only has minor decay or damage, we can likely take care of it in a single appointment using a tooth-colored filling. For more extensive trauma, we may recommend restoring it with a crown, which we can also place in a single appointment thanks to CEREC technology.
